But where do you start?

There is so much conflicting advice out there and everyone thinks they know better. This is something we know all to well. Most won’t believe you or will tell you you’re crazy and it won’t work. But, what do they know right?! As an entrepreneur that’s how you have to think. If Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk believed the naysayers would they be where they are today?

Ok, so now you’re thinking “Right, I’m doing this. What’s next?”

It’s time to work out if you are crazy, or if it’s actually going to work. So how do you know if you’re on the right track? We believe that starting with and focussing on the problem you are trying to solve is key. Once you have really worked out the root cause of your problem, you can begin to solve it.

And, “how do you do that?” I hear you ask. Validation.

Validation is key. Find out who your target market is and ask them. Ask them about the problem, find out what their biggest pain points are. That’s where you start. The more time and effort you spend on this the better indication you are going to get.   For example, we spent hours upon ours and days upon days surveying potential MyTradie customers. We knocked on hundreds of doors and went in to every local real estate agency in our area. We even went and did the same thing in different areas all over Sydney. Although we’re not complaining in the slightest about this one, we went to pubs and trade suppliers to speak to tradies to gather their feedback too. It’s here that you will probably find that there is something even more specific than what you originally thought the problem was. That’s ok. Drill down on that. Refine it some more. Do more research. Because let me tell you, you’re idea right now isn’t perfect. And that’s ok. The very first vision of MyTradie 5 years ago, is a very different product today. And we are proud of that.

Research is key. Learning is key.

You can never absorb enough information. If you like reading, start reading books about entrepreneurship and creating businesses – there are plenty out there. If you need some suggestions, sing out.
