Tradies Love it When…

WOOHOOO We’re free!!! Lockdown is finally over and there’s only 68 days until Christmas! I’m not counting or anything (trust me, I’m not – I had to google it). It’s going to be the first real time in almost 6 months that you’re able to get together properly with Friends and Family and you’re wanting to get all those niggling maintenance items or that improvement made to your home. But what you really want to know is how to I get the most out of a tradie and the most accurate quote possible? Am I right? Well, here are a few of our top tips for you.

1. Are Prepared

One thing that tradies love is when people know or at least have an idea of what they want. Whilst we are great at giving creative and construction (did you catch the pun) feedback, we don’t have the faintest idea of your preference when it comes to style or taste. So, if you’re wanting to renovate your bathroom put together a bit of a mood board and send it through to us before we come to site so we have an idea of what colours and styles you like. You have no idea how much time that saves. MyTradie Photos and Plans Be Prepared

2. We love it when you send us photos and plans

Photos and plans are our best friends! If you have a hole in the wall that you need to have patched for example and photo of the hole with something next to it for size reference will allow us to quote you accurately on the materials required. Or, if you’re wanting to change the blinds throughout your property, plans for the house as well as photos of the blinds your wanting to change and letting us know if you want the same blinds or something completely different is so helpful! Backyard makeovers are so fun to do and plan. Sending us a video whilst you tell us about your ideas of what you would like to have and where will make sure that we are on the same page and ready to go when we come out to meet with you. Photos showing us the current item to be replaced  will also assist us with making sure your quote is as accurate as possible. Due to the pandemic we have tried to make as much of what we do as contactless as possible. Sending multiple photos and videos can often allow us to quote you without having to come to site, which can also mean that we can get to your job quicker too! The more the better!

3. If you have a deadline, let your tradie know ASAP

One of the hardest parts for tradies is coming out to site and spending a lot of time with customers discussing what they are wanting, to then write up the quote and find that we can’t accommodate a customers timeframe. Whilst we do our best to accommodate our customers in every way that we can, quoting is often a time consuming task for us and we often have to write up all of our quotes after hours as our days are flat stick, meaning quoting often comes out of our time with our families. 4. Communication is Key

We will always do our best to keep you in the loop at all times. So if you have a question ask away.  Making sure that our customers have all of the information that they need to give them peace of mind that they are getting the best possible service and are in good hands.

5. Understanding that not all quotes can be free

Whilst we do our best to keep costs as low as possible and not charge for quotes or call outs. Sometimes, for those much larger jobs we do need to cover the cost of our time taken to complete a quote for our customers. A bathroom renovation, for example, can take hours and hours of our time over multiple site visits before we get to the final product and quote. We once spent over 4 hours sourcing pricing for towel rails and fixtures that were to a customers specific style. We also ask our customers to understand that expecting a free quote after hours isn’t fair on our tradies as well. A lot of tradies leave home between 5 and 6am Monday to Saturday. So, asking them to come out for free on a Sunday or after 6pm in the evening can be a bit hard for them to swallow.
